It is important to stick to the Cleansing Toning and Moisturizing ( CTM) Routine.

The following ingredients if present in the skincare products will help skin look younger and fresh.

  • Anti-oxidants
  • Vitamin C
  • Glycolic Acid
  • Hyaluronic Acid

A cleanser will help get rid of bacteria and dead cells. A good toner will help maintain the pH level of the skin. A toner will also remove any residual soap and makeup as well as kills bateria.

As you age oil production in the skin reduces. This is due to sebum production reduces as the sebaceous glands are not functioning as before.

The skin starts getting dry and you would have to switch mositurizers to handle these changes in the skin.

If your skin starts feeling drier, check the cleanser. The cleanser might be too strong, try milder cleansers.

Check the toners to see if they have any components which are drying the skin.

Facial oils are a good addition to the skin care regimen. These moisturize the skin.

Certain facial oils have ingredients which help prevent ageing and help with blemishes.

Include water based foods in your Diet

Water is much required as older skin starts drying out. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables.

Pick different colors of fruits. Different colors of fruits and vegetables have different vitamins and nutrients.

Eat salads as these will help flush out toxins and will bring glow and youthful shine to the face.

Exfoliate your Skin

Dead skin causes a lot of trouble. It makes the skin look dull and also clogs the pores. Clogged pores could lead to whiteheads, blackheads, acne.

The simple solution is to exfoliate your skin twice a week.

Homemade recipe for Exfoliating Skin

  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Juice of one lemon
  • 1 tsp raw honey

Mix the above ingredients and apply on the face. Gently rub over the skin in circular movements. I use outward and upward movements as this is good for blood circulation.

Tip: Massage gently for 1 to 2 minutes only

Wait for 15 minutes and wash off with warm water.

Apply Hydrating Face Masks

Face masks are a must once you cross 30. There are many hydrating face masks in the market which make the skin supple.

As the skin gets older, it is losing moisture, so we are trying to put in moisture both via the diet and via all the products we generally use.

There are many simple face masks which can be made at home.

Drink Water

Water is essential as it helps flush out toxins from the body. Water is what is used by the body to circulate and move nutrients around.

Once you start drinking lots of water, you will notice that your skin will start glowing.

You will also find yourself visiting the bathroom often. This is good as your body will be getting rid of toxins. You will notice that initial days the urine colour might be dark yellow. After a few days of drinking water, the urine colour will be very light or colourless.

If you hate drinking water, add some lemon juice or cucumber slices to your water.

Reduce sugar and try drinking warm water.

Apply Hydrating Eye cream

The very first signs of ageing are visible around the eyes. This is where the skin is very thin and hence the signs are more visible.

Start including an eyecream in your skin care regimen. Look for eyecreams which contain Vitamin B3 ( Niacinimide ) or Glycerin.

We want to address the fine lines and dark circles around the eyes. Eye creams will help address these concerns.

Use a serum along with moisturuzer

Facial Serums are lighter than moisturizers and penetrate the skin very quickly. The molecule size is very small which allows it be absorbed faster.

Hence a face serum will be able to address skin concerns better and quicker as more product can penetrate the skin to the layers where help is needed.

Serums contain vitamins and antioxidants which are very beneficial. Apply the face serum to a damp face after you cleanse an tone.

I sometimes mix a few drops of serum to my moisturizer. This is one secret tip of glowing skin.

Don’t Skip Sunscreen

Sunscreen is very essential, especially when you cross 30. It prevents sun damage.

UV rays can damage the skin and case skin cancer. They also set in ageing quicker. So it is ideal to apply sunscreen early in the morning.

I noticed a world of difference when I started doing this. The early sun rays might not be strong but they are harmful, so protect yourself.

The sunscreen should have a SPF or Sun Protection Factor of 30 or higher.

Mositurize your Body

Skin Care extends beyond the face. Apply moisturizer all over the body. Pay special attention to the elbows and knees which tend to dry out.

Cool Tip: Add essential oils to the bath water. This will moisturize your body and form a moisture barrier on the skin.

Pay Attention the Cosmetic you Use

It is best to reduce cosmetic use and let the skin breathe. If you work or your your face has spots and blemishes, you might find it difficult to expose the bare skin.

In that case try to use minimal makeup. Select cosmetics which are oil free, and paraben free.

Here are some basic tips to keep in mind while selecting your cosmetics

Invest in a mattifying Primer

Primers fill up the pores and fine lines and help makeup go on smooth. Let the primer dry completely before applying powder or foundation. A mattifying primer will absorb any excess oil.

Oil Free Cosmetics

Select cosmetics which are oil free. Foundations should be oil free as well.

Foundation oil free

Temporary fix for the oil secretions

Keep blotting papers, blotting sponges and mattifying setting powders handy. These are excellent to just blot out the excess oil.

This will save you a lot of trouble when you need to quickly fix the oil spills on your face.
